Forestry Information – FSC Forest Management Certification
OFS Brands, as a manufacturer, is FSC Chain of Custody (COC) certified within the production portion of some specific manufacturing facilities. Specifically in regards to our over 6,500 acres of company owned forestry land; 5,000 acres of this property is enrolled in the Indiana Classified Forest Program as classified forest land, which is now FSC forest management certified through the State of Indiana Department of Natural Resources. This FSC certification was effective March 31, 2010 under SCS-FM/COC-000123N. The program enforces standards such as having management plans, using best management techniques, and exposure to third party audits. This certification now enables OFS Brands to supply timber to customers seeking environmentally responsible products bearing the FSC trademark. Through this enrollment with the Indiana Classified Forest Program, we also qualify for certification of the American Tree Farm Systems (AFTS), which works similarly to the FSC program for timber growers.
National Tree Farm Program
All of OFS Brands’ forestlands are tree farms in the National Tree Farm program. This organization has developed their program to certify all of their tree farms in their program have a green forest certification. OFS Brands is a member of the Indiana Forestry and Woodland Association, and the Forest Stewardship Council, practicing sound forestry management. A total of 92% of the timberlands owned or managed by Weyerhauser, OFS Brands’ supplier of timberland and core material, are operated under environmental management systems registered to the ISO 14001 standard. 87% of the North American timberlands owned or manage by Weyerhauser are third party certified to the forest management standard of either the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
