CHICAGO – Carolina, a leading manufacturer of furniture for healthcare and other contract environments, announced today that the company’s new Commons seating system won a Silver Best of NeoCon Award in the healthcare seating category. The Commons system is currently on display at the company’s showroom located on the 11th floor of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart (1132) for NeoCon 2011, the National Exposition of Contract Furnishings.

Sponsored by Contract magazine, The Best of NeoCon Awards are presented annually at NeoCon. The juried competition awards Gold and Silver honors for new products that reflect design excellence and innovation.

Designed by Michael Shields, Commons is a seating and tables system designed to support the commons area, the architecture around it and the people who move through these important spaces. The common space has become more than just a waiting area. It is a social space in which we live, learn, work, interact, create and linger. Carolina’s supple upholstery enhanced by polished aluminum arms and legs brings landscape and form to interiors. This style of seating and occasional tables system offers numerous options including arm placement on the upholstery as well as power and data to keep the user connected. Commons encompasses thoughtfully scaled design elements which merge to support various configurations, functions, and aesthetic statements for a variety of environments.
